Skyrail’s bus transfers operate on a set timetable and departure times are coordinated with your Skyrail and or train experience. Morning and afternoon services operate depending on your travel direction and times will be offered during the booking process.
When booking a Skyrail Rainforest Cableway and Kuranda Scenic Railway self-drive experience, the package price includes the shuttle bus between Skyrail’s Smithfield Terminal and Freshwater Railway Station. The shuttle bus between the Skyrail Terminal and Freshwater Railway Station is necessary as the two stations are in different locations and are 7km apart.
When booking the self-drive package, you simply drive your vehicle and park at Skyrail’s Smithfield Terminal, regardless of your direction of travel.
If you do not have your own vehicle, bus transfers are available from selected Cairns City locations only. If you are staying outside of Cairns City and do not have a vehicle, or alternative means of transport, we recommend that you book a taxi or uber.
Skyrail Rainforest Cableway is located in Smithfield, on the Captain Cook Highway, a 20 minute drive North of Cairns City, 15 minutes from Palm Cove and 50 minutes South of Port Douglas.
Smithfield Terminal has a large car park offering free all-day parking, with dedicated spaces for recreational vehicles and caravans as well as two electric vehicle charge bays.
This is the drop off point for bus transfers for guests travelling on Skyrail. In addition, this is the parking location for those guests with a Skyrail and Kuranda Scenic Railway self-drive package.
Skyrail Rainforest Cableway is a 1.5 hour immersive rainforest experience which includes approximately 45 minutes total travel time in the gondola with two stops where you alight the cableway to explore the forest floor below. We recommend spending at least 20 minutes at each of the rainforest mid-stations, Red Peak and Barron Falls, discovering and learning about the ancient rainforest.
Spend a few hours in Kuranda, the village in the rainforest, known for its myriad of cafes, wildlife parks, markets and art galleries.
Kuranda Scenic Railway has set departure times, 8:50am or 9:50am from Freshwater Railway Station and 2:00pm or 3:30pm from Kuranda Railway Station.
* Departures are not available from Cairns Central Station.
A one-way Kuranda Scenic Railway experience takes 1.5 hours, you will depart from Freshwater Railway Station, or Kuranda Railway Station depending on your itinerary and travel direction.
The train journey takes you across 37 bridges and through 15 hand carved tunnels, reaching heights up to 328 metres above sea level. Passing steep ravines and lush vegetation, see the impressive heights of Stoney Creek Falls, enjoy a 10 minute photographic stop at Barron Falls with views of the Barron Gorge and wander the historic Kuranda Station and Tea Rooms.
Kuranda Scenic Railway is a unique railway journey and is a popular addition to your Skyrail experience. Packages with bus transfers from Cairns City and for self-drivers are available.
