Tropical Tree Day 2017
The sun is shining at 7.30am on a balmy Cairns Sunday.
The support teams for Tropical Tree Day 2017 are busy setting up an array of activities, turning the once empty Kamerunga Environment park into a busy little entertainment hub.
The atmosphere is positive and uplifting as we watch families, couples & individuals from all nationalities & backgrounds arrive to help do their part for the environment by rolling up their sleeves to support a wonderful initiative. Originally set up by the Skyrail Rainforest Foundation in partnership with the Cairns Regional Council to coincide with National Tree Day, Tropical Tree Day has quickly established itself as a well supported Cairns community event.

Over 1,000 native trees planted at the Kamerunga Environment Park for Tropical Tree Day 2017.
Major sponsor Cairns Pacific Toyota and Planet Ark ensured no one got sunburn by kitting out all the eager planters with sunscreen, long sleeve shirts and gardening gloves. You even got to keep your shirts and gloves! After your feel good morning doing your part for the community, you get to take home some pretty neat souvenirs.

The smell wafting around the park is amazing and the chief sausage cooking team from Cairns Pacific Toyota seem to have an endless supply! (Minus the ones they are consuming for quality assurance purposes along the way!)
The kids have got it sorted, sausage in one hand and water saving crystals in the other. There is something really satisfying about watching all these families having such a blast whilst giving their time to these community projects.

Skyrail Environment Ranger and passionate photographer, Mike Gaia is onsite with his drone. Busy buzzing around overhead, keeping track of all the trees going in the ground and getting the kids involved in his footage.
When you see the photos from the air, you can really appreciate how much ground has been covered! the newly planted area is quite extensive and very impressive in the aerial shots.
It was hot work out there, but throughout the day over 1000 holes had been dug and over 1000 native trees were planted by the Cairns local community, Skyrail and Cairns Regional Council Rangers and the team from Pacific Toyota Cairns!
