Who are Containers for Change?
Containers for Change was established in Queensland on November 1st 2018, with over 230 container refund points across the state. Over three billion drink bottles and containers are used every year in Queensland, and they have become the second highest littered item.
Containers for Change is leading the way at changing this by creating opportunities to earn cash while clearing our streets, beaches and bush land of littered containers. Their exchange scheme makes it easy for everyone to collect their eligible bottles and aluminium drink cans at home, work, school, or in the local community to collect the 10c refund. To date 4,982,861,384 containers have been returned through Containers for Change refund points in Queensland!
There are many ways to return your containers; from depot locations, bag drops, reverse vending machines, home pick ups and pop up locations. Eligible refundable containers include aluminium, glass, plastic, steel and paperboard between 150ml and 3 litres. But… just remember to take the lids off!

How Skyrail utilises Containers for Change…
The Skyrail team is built up of over 120 staff members and together, at work and as individuals at home, we each make small changes every day for a greener future. Sometimes it is not the big ‘WOW’ factor things that make a difference, but all of the small things we do that add up!
As a sustainable tourism leader, we are certified as an EarthCheck Master, Ecotourism Australia Advanced Ecotourism Green Travel Leader and Climate Action Innovator and we are proud of our continuing commitment to our sustainability promise. Containers for Change is one of the many day to day practices we encourage throughout Skyrail and the funds we raise from our collections are used to support rainforest research and education via The Skyrail Rainforest Foundation.

How does this contribute to the Skyrail Rainforest Foundation…
We collect containers throughout the Skyrail experience, including from our Canopy Cafe, and all of the funds raised are donated directly to the Skyrail Rainforest Foundation.
The Skyrail Rainforest foundation was established in 1995. The foundation supports and initiates a variety of studies and projects with a specific focus on research aimed at understanding rainforest ecosystems and biodiversity worldwide, improved management of rainforest environments, education and assisting projects where the primary objective is to protect and rehabilitate rainforest flora and fauna. Funding is available each calendar year through an application process for university students whose work aligns with our vision and aims to improve the protection of tropical rainforests through better understanding and sustainable practices.

It has your scheme ID barcode and keeps track of your exchanges at their depots. But why not collect your containers and donate to your chosen organisation or charity such as our foundation? Small changes really can make a big impact!
